Established in Thailand, the kickboxing style of MuayThai focuses on both striking and clinching techniques. Some of the biggest names in the UFC – such as Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo and Alistair Overeem – train in MuayThai due to its ability to produce devastating power, speed and superb cardiovascular endurance. An hour’s class can burn in excess of 750 calories!
But you don’t have to be a budding fighter to enjoy the sport’s benefits; we run beginners’ classes for complete newbies, plus intermediate to advanced classes for fighters and fitness enthusiasts alike.
Each class begins with a warm-up which includes skipping, shadow boxing and bodyweight exercises. We then move on to pad-work and offensive and defensive technique drilling; these help to develop power, timing and speed. Classes end with some cardio work, pad drills and a cool-down. Sparring is reserved for the more advanced levels (under supervision by an instructor).
What to wear: Thai shorts, t-shirt, hand-wraps and gloves. If sparring is involved, additional equipment – such as a mouthguard, shin-pads and headgear – is recommended. We have equipment for beginners to borrow.
